Can I use diaper rash ointment?

Just like detergents there are an abundance of great “cloth diaper safe” ointments out there. You just need to make sure you read the ingredients and avoid some common ones. The best choices are the natural and organic varieties.

Best Choices:

Beeswax
Jojoba Oil
Shea Butter
Coconut Oil
Olive Oil
Grape Seed Oil
Cocoa Butter
Aloe Vera
Lanolin

These are some really great natural ingredients that will wash out of your LOCD during the normal wash routine…best choices!

Always Avoid:

Cod Liver Oil
Calamine
Paraffin
Petroleum Jelly
White or Yellow Petrolatum
Mineral Oil
Zinc

These are barrier type diaper ointments ingredients that will clog the fibers of the diapers and make them “repel” or not soak up the pee. They do not wash our with the normal washing routine and will ruin your diaper and void the warranty. They can also discolor or cause your LOCD to smell really bad…avoid at all costs!
